National Brumby Seminar

The National Brumby Seminar hosted by STB Inc. in Armidale, 12/13 April 2008 was a positive step forward in wild horse management. Representatives from Brumby organisations Australia wide, W.A., S.A., Vic., NSW., Tasmania, individuals from Qld., RSPCA officials from Qld., NSW and the Australian Horse Alliance attended. Issues such as lack of Government funding to run approved programs of removal, difficulties in obtaining suitable agistment land and animal welfare concerns were the main topics for discussion.

Each State experienced different problems yet commonalities throughout were uniform. The formation of the Australian Brumby Alliance was the outcome of the weekend. This umbrella organisation will act for associated approved Brumby Welfare groups in matters of funding, assistance, collating of data on a National basis and police watchdog in all areas where wild horses are threatened with bullets. The weekend concluded with a tour of the New England Brumby Sanctuary to show what can be achieved by careful, planned, ongoing management of horses removed from Government land. We look forward to the future success of the Australian Brumby Alliance.

We invite interested people to document their concerns regarding wild horse management and to forward to:
